for solo violin and pre-recorded violin
Violin and pre-recorded violin: Orest Smovzh
    Composition and amplification: Simone Spampinato

“You will have mutilated your own gaze until you can count within it three hundred and forty-three tears; it will be a useful grid for judging the outcome of the game at a single glance. As soon as you unseal your eyelids, you will know that you have once again lost against chance. The total number of birds may perhaps approach an ideal, elegant figure, but you will have lost all the same.”

    — Antoine Volodine, Our Loved Animals

On the day of the concert, the violinist makes nine recordings across nine specific places and moments in time, beginning in the early hours of the morning. That evening, these fragments are played back. The live performance unfolds as a negotiation between what has already happened and what is happening now.

    Petri Kuljuntausta

    Ellen Phan (US)
Ellen Phan is an artist working primarily in the field of computer music. Therapy-specific methodologies are employed as source material, modulated autonomously by para-sympathetic activity through a variety of processing and synthesis, with an aim to gather insight into cognitive and emotional states on a subconscious level. Hers is a distinctly hallucinatory psychoacoustic sound world aimed directly, with intent and focus, at the subconscious mind. She is based in Los Angeles.

    Ruby Louise Rose
Ruby Louise Rose’s performance will probably involve setting some processes in motion and poking them every now and then. Visually, it might look like she is checking her email.

    Antoine Verhaverbeke & Sulo Kolehmainen
A first time duo performance from 2 people with deep interest in finding the stimulating in the boring. AV: Sustainer guitar, SK: Clarinet & electronics.

    Petri Kuljuntausta
A forerunner of the generation of Finnish electronica artists that emerged in the 1990s, Petri Kuljuntausta manoeuvres smoothly around the relatively peripheral sphere that makes up Finland’s experimental electronic music scene, always maintaining a broad international outlook be that as an artist, or as a keen observer.

    /////

Bloom & Gloom on Äänen lumon järjestämä tapahtuma joka tuo kuultavaksi mielenkiintoisia äänen parissa toimivia tekijöitä läheltä ja kaukaa.

Tällä kertaa esiintymässä on Los Angelesilainen tietokonemusiikin taituri, myös hypnotisoijana työskenellyt Ellen Phan, joka saapuu ensimmäiselle Suomen keikalleen.

Esiintymässä myös suomalaisen äänitaiteen uranuurtaja Petri Kuljuntausta, Turussa tällä hetkellä asuva Ruby Louise Rose jonka tiukat mikroskooppisen tarkat generatiiviset biitti-ilottelut eivät jätä ketään kylmäksi, sekä Antoine Verhaverbeken ja Sulo Kolehmaisen muodostama duo, joka tutkii yksitoikkoisuuden stimuloivia ominaisuuksia.

Suhina Klubi’s spring season ends with a bang, when Chris Corsano, Camila Nebbia & Jukka Kääriäinen take the stage on 4th of June

    CHRIS CORSANO

Described as “one of the world’s greatest drummers” by 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯 and “arguably the most riotously energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz” by 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘦, New York-based 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗼 (b. 1975) has been active at the intersections of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock, and experimental music since the late 90’s. His dedication to collective improvisation has led him to join forces with many kindred spirits, and he’s appeared on over 180 records and thousands of live performances. Besides his renown solo career, Corsano’s been the rim-batterer of choice for some of the greatest contemporary purveyors of jazz (Joe McPhee, Paul Flaherty, Mette Rasmussen, Zoh Amba) and rock (Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt, Jim O’Rourke), as well as artists beyond categorization (Björk for her Volta World Tour, Michael Flower, Okkyung Lee).

    EN
An evening of adventurous sound and spontaneous interaction, bringing together four distinctive voices from the Finnish and Nordic creative music scene.

Saxophonist Mikko Innanen, drummer Teemu Mustonen, bassist Ulf Krokfors, and Argentinian guitarist Gon meet in a concert where jazz, free improvisation, and experimental textures merge into an intense and unpredictable live experience.

Rooted in deep listening and collective creativity, the music moves freely between subtle atmospheres, raw energy, and expansive sonic landscapes.

    FI

    23.5. / Isthmus launch event

Isthmus is a new small label and archive for experimental sonic practices, which operates on the basis of collaboration. The first set of releases will be released to support Toinen kerros, a community driven diy sonic art space. Join us for celebrating the modest beginnings of Isthmus!

    Koho/Koskenlahti

Koho/Koskenlahti on laaja-alaisesti äänen parissa työskentelevän J. Kohon ja perkussionisti Minna Koskenlahden muodostama duo. Duon kiinnostuksen kohteina on tutkiskella erilaisiin tiloihin, tavanomaisiin soittimiin ja epätyypillisiin äänilähteisiin säilöttyä soivaa potentiaalia ja etsiä erilaisia keinoja sen vapauttamiseksi.

    Minerva Juolahti

Minerva Juolahti is a sound and performance artist working with body, sound, space, and paper. Their works are performative and conceptual spatial gestures that evolve around the sonic.

    Sirpa Jokinen

The sound performances of Sirpa Jokinen are layered polyphonic experiments with electronic instruments and synthesizers she built, field recordings, objects and traditional instruments. She plays synthesizers in the duo Brutou Dou, Helsinki Improvisation Orchestra and Synthestra. She also makes acousmatic pieces using field recordings made with self-built equipment but also combine these using standard recording equipment, found sounds and played sounds. She is painter by education. Conceptually her work deal with the surrounding space.

    ミス (misu)

ミス is a duo that performs sounds with loosely flapping strings and springs. The produced vibrations are then channeled through a gooey heap of electronics before bursting out of the speaker cones leaving a faint stench of doom metal in their wake. The cycle is completed when it all folds back on itself, fed back like the proverbial tail of Ouroboros. The chaos is further exacerbated by the partially Savonian lineup.
