    30.10.25 / Suhina klubi

Suhina Klubi serves as a platform for improvised and experimental music and sound art within Helsinki. During the year 2025 we present improvised music ensembles from Finland and abroad.

In the fourth edition of Suhina Klubi for the fall 2025, we are present Brad Henkel & Jukka Kääriäinen

Brad Henkel is an American trumpeter and composer currently living in Berlin, Germany. He focuses primarily on improvisation, utilizing a wide palette of timbres from both composed and non-composed sounds. He creates and performs music based on a blend of jazz, contemporary music, and Echtzeitmusik traditions. He is a member of the KIM collective.

Jukka Kääriäinen is a musician focused on experimental music. Depending on the situation, Jukka’s instruments include a prepared acoustic guitar or an electric guitar with a backpack full of effects. Kääriäinen has performed in many European countries and at international festivals in the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. In addition to solo concerts, he regularly performs in ensembles and has collaborated with musicians such as Teppo Hauta-Aho, Kalle Kalima, Harri Sjöström, Axel Dörner, Kriton Beyer, Rieko Okuda, Anil Eraslan, Mikko Innanen, and Joel Grip. He has also premiered works by composers such as Riikka Talvitie, Sebastian Hilli, Sami Klemola, Clara de Asís, and Tytti Arola.

He teaches free and electroacoustic improvisation at the Sibelius Academy.

Eevi Oittinen is a visual artist fascinated by the interaction of the visual and the sonic arts. Her work includes traditional painting in mixed media as well as interdisciplinary collaborations that bring together painting and contemporary music. Kaleva is a performance inspired by Finno-Ugric folklore. The performance awakens ancient symbols through sound and movement, offering the audience a timeless journey into the heritage of the Baltic Sea region. The performance intertwines peoples and traditions – Estonian and Finnish cultural roots find common ground and artistic expression together with artists from Japan and South Korea.
