    “Auguri! (Agouro)”
    [From the Italian – Congratulations
    From the Portuguese – Omen],
Is a ritualistic and cathartic performance open to the spectator. It was designed to
celebrate error, failure. Based on the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi (acceptance of
imperfection), the performance uses Kintsugi (the Japanese tradition of repairing ceramic
pieces with gold) to, with it, celebrate all the differences that unite us.

Artistic Direction: Daniela Morganiça (performer, PT)
Artistic Collaboration: Aino Säävälä (singer, FI) and Tonya Björkbom (performer, FI)

Shafeeq Alsadi is a Palestinian singer, qanun player, and composer from Bethlehem. His improvised sets are deeply rooted in the Arabic musical tradition. His collaboration with Slovak musician Jano Doe, an experimental player of DIY modular synthesizers, creates unexpected musical landscapes filled with shared restlessness, anger, and sorrow over the reality of a crumbling world.

For this concert the duo will be joined by Saku Liimatainen, a musician from Helsinki focused on electronic composition, music production, and piano pedagogy.

    Timo Tuhkanen

Timo Tuhkanen is an artist-composer, curator, and writer, whose work intersects between contemporary art, music, and research into the cultural and historical aspects of touch. Their work is concerned with designing and creating direct actions and socio-political interventions as an artistic practice through collective intelligence, relational aesthetics, and operational realism, and their subject matters often adapt inside an occupied environment of urban landscapes, digital platforms, and hydrosocial-spaces. Tuhkanen likes to describe their work as lived-through narrative fiction and mythopoetics, and they are interested in the psychological conflict between what is imaginable and what is realistically achievable and how this conflict materialises in the resources we construct.

    JUHO TUOMAINEN

Juho Tuomainen is an ambient guitarist who creates improvised atmospheres as a vehicle for meditation. The event celebrates his latest work “Improv_Loops_Vol.1”, that will be published on 21st of February by Oneiric Tones.

The dreamy, live-ambient EP release features three unedited atmospheres, each improvised in a single take. As the first volume in an ongoing series that explores the electric guitar as a self-sufficient soundscaping tool, this work invites a calm and contemplative state of mind, making it a perfect complement to relaxed interior spaces or moments of deep reflection.

Tuomainen’s calm and contemplative sound reflects his feelings on the impermanence of the human condition, as well as his affection towards the delicate nature of Japanese aesthetics.
With a creative use of a looper, he likes to build imaginary environments, while letting the music breathe and speak for itself. Through his music, he wants to bring us back to our innermost questions and remind us that we are here only for a short while.

On December 15th 2024 Tuomainen released his first single.

TEEA AARNIO & WILSON TANNER SMITH

Teea Aarnio and Wilson Tanner Smith represents a delicate meeting of many musical backgrounds across improvisation, electronics and interdisciplinary performance. The duo met during year 2024 at the same time that they played live together for the first time. They were introduced to each other during an improvised music performance, facilitated by Sergio Castrillon.
On Friday they will again meet on the stage to share an improvised musical conversation.

Smith is a cellist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from the contemporary and free jazz/free improvisation communities of Chicago, with a sensitive approach to sound and space, often creating work for site-specific performances drawing from the latent sound, historical, and cultural associations of a given place and moment.

Aarnio is a global-facing Helsinki based vocalist-composer, improviser, songwriter, activist and interdisciplinary artist. She combines voice and electronics with creative use of loopers, and her works draws inspiration from the various never-ending decolonial processes, tightly related to f. ex. musical aesthetics. Aarnio worked for ten years in a professional soundpainting improvisation orchestra and her trilingual folk fusion debut album ‘Väki’ was released 2023.

    16.2.2025 / Transsonic – Viola Yip & Nicola Hein

Welcome to the Finnish debut performance of the Berlin-based duo TRANSSONIC!

    Date: Sunday 16.2.2025
    Start time: 19:00
Venue: Äänen Lumo, Nokiantie 2-4, Helsinki
    Tickets: 5-10€ (door)

Transsonic (Viola Yip and Nicola L. Hein) is a Berlin-based transmedia duo. Since 2018, they have been joining forces to develop new works at the intersection of instrument building, incorporating new technologies and developing embodied performance with sound and light.
They create immersive site-specific performances and installations bridging the vibrations of light and sound. Trained as musicians, both look into the ontology of sound and how musical experience can be transformed beyond its common material—sound. For their artistic research project Transsonic, they explore light as an expanded musical material. They research and create performances, improvising between lights and sounds as equally essential but dialectical musical materials.

They have been commissioned by Next Festival Bratislava, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Seanaps Festival Leipzig, and Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry at the University of Chicago. They have also presented at New York University, Experimental Intermedia (NYC), CCRMA at Stanford University, Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, Sonic Lab in SARC at Queen’s University Belfast, Huddersfield, Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, AIMC Conference at Oxford University, New Interface and Musical Expression (NIME) conference in Shanghai and Utrecht, Gare du Nord and Academy of Music Basel, Academy of Music Luzern, Klex Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong Arts Center, De Tanker in Amsterdam, Musikhochschule Lübeck, Blurred Edges Festival in Hamburg, Alte Feuerwache in Köln, Experimentik Berlin and Radialsystem Berlin.

He toured the USA with Keiji Haino as part of the seminal psychedelic band Fushitsusha. Returning to Japan after a period in NYC he continued playing drums and electronics in K.K. Null‘s noise/rock band A.N.P. (Absolut Null Punkt), while further exploring free improvisation. A relocation to France in 1999 led to collaborations that extended into dance, theatre and performance as well as ongoing partnerships with musicians Jean-Luc Guionnet, Eric Cordier, Michel Doneda, Mattin, Lionel Marchetti, among many others. He uses voice and percussion and tries to apply his practice of improvisation to other fields of creative activities.
